Decide How to Handle Future Remote Work
A significant percentage of American workers saw their jobs transition from office-based to home-based in 2020. What are your plans? Do your employees want to continue working from home? Does the nature of your business require at least some in-person contact?
The decision is ultimately yours, but you should base that decision on several things: employee input, CDC recommendations, productivity, and social distancing guidelines. If remote work doesn’t affect productivity and makes your employees feel more comfortable, stick with that. If in-person contact is unavoidable, make absolutely sure that your office is a safe environment. Sanitize everything, provide hand sanitizer and masks, rearrange desks according to social distancing rules, and generally make sure your employees feel safe coming back to work.
Improve Business Security
Cybercriminals have taken advantage of the world’s focus on the pandemic to get away with more online fraud. Remote work and online shopping have only increased the pool of potential victims. Don’t let them get to your business! Give your employees and yourself improved security for the new year.
Update Your Technology
How long have you had your office hardware and software? It may be time for a new year’s upgrade, especially if you’re resuming in-office workdays. Take inventory and see what’s not working properly and what’s too old to be useful. Start the new year off on the right foot with brand new office equipment.
Conclusion
2020 was quite a ride for everyone. As 2021 begins, we’re still picking up the pieces. But we can work hard to make this next year much better.
