South by Southwest (SXSW), the annual Austin festival that features technology, film, and music, is upon us again. This year it runs from March 13-22.
SXSW Interactive (the part of the festival that is focused on technology and innovation) has a wide range of activities, from checking out new products to taking workshops to listening to lectures to meeting with leaders in the field. There will be over 800 sessions, as well as exhibitions, competitions, and networking events.
This year’s SXSW Interactive focuses on startups, transportation, ideas for faster delivery of goods and services, robotics, the dangers of social media, interconnection (dubbed The Internet of Things), technology in health and medicine, and giving back.
SXSW is now seeing more not just national, but international attention than ever before, especially within the entrepreneurial Startup Village. Ever since Twitter exploded out of SXSW in 2007, people in the tech world see SXSW as a launchpad with the potential to lead to a great deal of success, though the odds of becoming as huge as Twitter are slim no matter how good the opportunity to be seen is.
So, the techies of the world are about to descend on Austin, whether it is to check out the latest innovations, to learn about how they can improve their businesses or their world, or to try to become the next big thing.
