Microsoft Releases Apps For iOS And Android

The More Apps, The Better…

Microsoft today released five MSN-branded mobile applications that run on Android, iOS, and Amazon devices.

Fortunately, they are free apps, which is always cool. Other news regarding these apps – they were previously created under the not-so-loved Bing team and were originally built for Windows 8 and Windows Phone devices.

The suite of MSN apps include the following: Sports, News, Money, Food & Drink, and Health & Fitness. They are available starting today on iTunes, Amazon Appstore, and Google Play.

Some of the apps have been customized to take advantage of the various platforms’ distinctive features. The Health & Fitness app on iOS will permit users to count their steps and runs and track their dieting and cardio training. It will also tie into Apple’s HealthKit platform.

Microsoft also said the apps can be personalized by end users, in order to “customize and organize the information you want according to your interests.” This means you can track your favorite sports teams, check on your stock portfolio, or follow your preferred new sources.

The push to bring these apps to iOS and other platforms like Android is part of larger initiative at Microsoft to drive the adoption of the company’s desktop and cloud services by making its mobile apps available across a variety of platforms. This new direction is being spearheaded by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who replaced long-time Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer earlier this year,” according to MacRumors.com.
